About the Students

Megan Ingros, a junior at the University of Kentucky, is a business management and journalism major. Ingros writes for the Black Sheep at the university and the student newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel, where she has also been a designer. Ingros is from Fairfax, Va., where she graduated with an advanced diploma from Lake Braddock High School. She was the main student writer for the Kentucky's U.S. Senate Race blog this summer, and covered the Fancy Farm Picnic and related events.


Paige Hobbs is a senior at the University of Kentucky pursuing a degree in journalism and a minor in English. This summer she covered the Fancy Farm Picnic and related events. A native of Meade County, Kentucky, she has produced and anchored for student radio station WRFL-FM and the UK Student News Network news program, and has written several news articles for the student newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel.


Cheyene Miller, a junior at the University of Kentucky, is a journalism and political science major. He is assistant news editor at the Kentucky Kernel student newspaper, and a former staff writer at the Sentinel-Echo newspaper in his hometown of London, Ky., where he received a Commonwealth Diploma from South Laurel High School in 2012.

Ben Tompkins is a senior broadcast-journalism major at the University of Kentucky. Tompkins has held various positions and gained experience in radio, television, newspapers and public relations. He runs a sports talk show on Sundays from 9 to 10 a.m. on student station WRFL, 88.1 FM. Tompkins is from Prospect, Ky., where he graduated from North Oldham High School.

Tyler Spanyer is a senior journalism major at the University of Kentucky. He was born and raised in Lexington, where his family still resides. He has worked for HerCampus.com and the Kentucky Kernel while in school, writing mainly about various collegiate sports. Tyler plans to go to law school next fall where he will study to become a probate lawyer with an alternate focus on corporate law.

Brenton Ward is a senior at the University of Kentucky, pursuing degrees in English and broadcast journalism. Brenton has written for the school newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel, and has produced stories for student radio station WRFL and UK’s Student News Network. He is originally from Owensboro, Ky., where he obtained an associate degree from the community college and graduated with honors Owensboro Catholic High School.
